I have a Canon S600 which is now about 2 years old so it is obviously out of
warranty. The printhead has gone - tried everything and all problems point
towards printhead failure. When I was in CompUsa and Best Buy last week I
saw the Canon BC-33E cartridge set with a printhead included for the S400
printer.

The printhead on the S600 is QY6-0034 but I haven't been able to find out
what printhead is in the BC-33E or in the S400 printer.

Can I buy the BC-33E from CompUsa or Best Buy for $49.99 complete with four
new ink cartridges and use it in the S600 or have I got to spend more than
the old printer is worth to buy a replacement printhead from Canon?

TIA

Unfortunately the BC33E will not fit.
You must purchase from Canon or an authorized repair facility.

You need to buy the printhead through Canon.
They charge $67.99 + tx. You can get ground
shipping for $5.00 or 2 day economy for $7.00

The heads ship from CA, the order center is in NJ.
You can reach them at 1-732-521-7679

I was afraid that I was going to hear that!!

Now I have to decide today if it is even worth it. A trip to Fry's to see
what they have on special for around $100 with a warranty I think! $68 +
tax + shipping to fix a two year old unit plus four replacement cartridges
makes for an expensive replacement unit. Maybe time for a change from Canon
as well. My daughter's computer has my old HP deskjet 610CL as the printer
and although I hate buying the ink cartridges every time they need replacing
the printer has never been a problem and has just kept on working for
years - I can't even remember when I bought it now.

Thanks for your help guys, I appreciate it.

I saw some S600 heads on EBay for around $40-$50. Mine went out after about
3 years, seems the contacts to the board on the back are the culprit. I was
able to keep it going by pressing on the contacts every 3 or 4 days but it
doesn't work at all anymore.
I bought a new I560 for $90 shipped from Egghead.
