For cheaper printers isn't much of a deal, but if you have a $300
discontinued printer
then it makes sense.
Anyway on http://www.inkcessories.com
prices are much better.

I bought a printhead from inkcessories - good price and quick delivery of a
factory sealed new unit. I've since read posts that this company also sells
printheads cheaper than their web site on ebay.

Always good to have such infomation.
Not sure I follow you. On a like for like basis, why would you buy a
new printhead when the price of a new printer is less?

The clueless spammer tries to sell printheads by spamming this NG

I would like to know how you equate that remark, looking a Canon IP6600d
the cost of a replacement printer is over £100. I see that fwit Milou is
still giving it some.

The spammer knows that this is a good place to sell. There are many
fools who use generic ink so he feels he should make a few sales.

I think this is called the razor blade business model. Underprice whole
printer to try to get you to buy lots of ink cartridges and other
consumables, yet overprice parts to try to force you to buy a new printer.

The logic escapes most of us, but I guess it works on paper for the
manufacturers. Of course, no one is billing them for the environmental
costs... yet!
