Under warranty, or close to it? Talk to canon.

You can do a nozzle check and check to see if your bci-3e ink is
printing. If not than check to see if it has ink, as in pop it out and
look.

If you got ink, and the nozzle check shows no bci-3e ink, try a manual
cleaning, though you might want to replace the cartridge first,
followed by deep cleaning and nozzle checks. If that failes three
times, and you are under warranty, talk with canon about a head
replacement. They ship them out 2nd day air the last time I checked,
and apparently they sometimes honor the warranty beyond the warranty
period.

If you are totally outside the warranty period then ask about cleaning
techniques, but given the choice between a free new head and cleaning,
i'd vote new head.

whoops. should have figured it out immediately!

i usually buy aftermarket ink from printpal. ran out a few days ago and went
to STAPLES and bought aftermarket in.

clogged the black printhead used for text and (separate cartridge and head)
that prints photos.

on my way to STAPLES now for my refund.

thats what i have been saying all along. now that you learned you can
buy a new printhead and then go to staples and get oem ink.

no, some aftermarket ink works fine.

i put the printpal carts in (which came 2 days after i bought the STAPLES
crap). did three nozzle cleans and a deep clean.

everthing is working fine now.

i did go back to staples and got a full refund PLUS $3 per cart recycle
money w/out buying anymore ink. had a little discussion w/ the manager about
the $3 recycle money and he said it was only if you buy more ink. i told him
it takes a lot of ink to clean a printer and i did a lot of
cleaning/unclogging and burned a lot of ink and that STAPLES owed me
something for that. he agreed and gave me the $6 plus a full refund on that
crappy ink.
