I upgraded from Canon Pixma 4000 to Pixma 5200 but 5200 printer only
prints first job (perfectly I may add) and then goes into limbo for
about 8-10 minutes as the first job remains in the queue and is even
difficult to remove manually. I am using XP Prof SP2. Have
downloaded updated driver from Canon and reinstalled driver but no
difference. Have even reinstalled Windows but problem remains. Had
no such problem with my Pixma 4000! Desperately needing assistance
with this one.

It almost sounds like you might have some mismatched files - possibly an old
one or ones from the 4000 and new ones from the 5200. Perhaps the files
were not all upgraded correctly when the newer printer was installed.

I suggest that you check with Canon support to see if they have an
uninstaller/cleaner to clean out all old files and then reinstall the new
printer driver.

You say that you reinstalled Windows but I assume that you mean you
installed over the existing installation and not into a new folder. If this
happened after you installed into a new folder, then I would definitely
contact Canon support about the problem.

I have the exact same problem but my printer is a Canon Pixma IP6600D.
The latest drivers for the printer (190B) were installed but did correct the
problem
I also did a bare metal re-install of WinXP, installed SP2 and all updates
and the problem remains.

If bi-directional support is disabled on the ports tab of the printer
property page, the print queue will clear within a couple of seconds.
However,
doing this causes many annoying messages from the driver indicating that it
can not communicate with the printer. With bi-directional support enabled
the print queue takes anywhere from 5 to 10 mins to clear. Attempting to
remove the document from the printer property page, by selecting cancel, has
no affect.

Canon support could only scratch their heads, they were no help.

Thanks in advance for responses!

Hi - Thanks for assistance. I did a full format and reinstall but the
problem still occurred. I have disabled the spool function and print
straight to Printer - don't normally print a lot so can get away with
this. It solves the problem of the "stuck print queue" but have
nevertheless written Canon Support as suggested.

Many Thanks

Same problem here! I960 printed properly with spooler. Had a problem with
the i960 and installed my wife's ip5000 on my computer as I had a big photo
printing project to complete. The ip5000 wouldn't print at all. I tried to
clear the queue and my computer locked up. Deleted and reinstalled the
latest Canon driver. Moved the USB connection from a hub to the USB port on
the computer. No help. Disabling the spooler permitted the printer to
function properly, but it really slowed my work flow down as my computer was
tied up for each print to finish. Canon tech support on the phone was
pleasant, attempted to help, but exhausted his list of remedies and told me
it was probably a corrupted file in xp pro. Told me to reinstall winxp to
see if that would work. I decided that since everything else was working
well I wouldn't take a chance of screwing up other program functions. I
also have an HP5p installed on this computer and it functions properly with
the spooler. I think there must be something wierd with the Canon ip5000
driver or printer.
