Canon Multipass F30 stopped working in XP

My F30 Canon worked fine for over a year. I went to print a pdf file last
week and the computer said there was no printer connected. It would print
from Word, just not from a webpage pdf file. I attempted to reinstall the
driver, but XP would not accept it. It then stopped printing anything. I
would get a periodic message about a missing .dll file. I reloaded XP but
the problem still existed. After repeated attempts, I finally got the old
driver that came with the printer to load. The computer will not load the
updated driver from the Canon website. Now the printer will print any type
of document, but it will not scan. If I try to scan, the error message
about a printer not being connected pops up. Also - I had to create a new
user account for the printer to work. If I go my original account, the
printer shows as not being connected.

I get the feeling that this is linked to a recent XP update. Any ideas on
what I can do? I have XP Home.

Thanks,

Dave

Cari,

You gave me another response, but it must have scrolled
off the board. It had something to do with another
command prompt line about scanning. Would you mind
giving the line to me again?

Thanks,
Dave

Sure, not exactly scanning, but asking XP to check the system files and if
they are wrong or corrupted, to replace them with corrected ones! From the
command prompt, type

sfc /scannow

(sfc = system file checker)! Note the space between the c and the /

Thanks. I entered the sfc /scannow line and nothing came up, other than a
new c:prompt line. I guess this means the files are okay?

This is really puzzling. The printer is not the problem, since it scans
fine when I plug it into my laptop. I think the problem may lay with my XP
being hosed up. I did a Norton utilities check and it said my "mscoree.dll"
file was missing. I reinstalled it and it still shows up as being missing
according to Norton.
