I am trying to install a Canon MP600 multifunction printer on an XP
machine. The setup instructions tell you not to use the Windows
Hardware setup wizard, but to follow the routine on the setup disk -
connect the USB cable and switch the printer on when instructed.
OK, what happens is that as soon as you turn on the printer the hardware
wizard appears, the balloon says that an MP600 has been detected. If
you then cancel the wizard, the setup routine just hangs. This happens
every time you run the installation.
Windows must be able to detect the new printer if the hardware wizard is
appearing. The problem seems to be with Canon's setup routine.
The USB port on my computer is OK, because I can plug in a flash drive
and it is detected straight away. I've tried three different USB
cables, including a new one, without any luck. I've shut down the anti
virus software and other start up programs before installing, but it
still doesn't work.
Other than trying to install it on a different machine, which Canon's
technical support has suggested, can anyone offer any more help?
Thank you,
