Canon LiDE 35 vs 50?

My local store has both the Canon LiDE 35 and 50 for the same price,
and the specs look to me to be identical. I believe that the 35 is a
newer model, but can anyone think of any reason to go for one over the
other?

The 50 seems to have better software, so I guess if there are no
differences in scan quality than I'll try and get that.

I'll mostly be scanning documents and the occasional photo, I guess
that one of these will do? The cheapest Epson seems to be almost twice
the price, so I guess I'd want much better scanning quality to justify
that.

Thanks!

IMO epson is much stronger hardware but the software at times can really
mess up the OS. Do a google search about epson twain problems in both Mac
and PC OS's.
I have an epson 3170 (which I have not been able to get to work with epson
drivers under win2k) and had to spend an additonal $100 for scanning
software. And I have a Canon Lide 35 which istalled and ran without a
problem.
No comparison in the quality of scan but then with the additional software I
had to buy the Epson cost 4 times as much ($300 vs $75 usd).

Which store is that, please, and what is the price? I've been trying
to locate a 50 without success.

Damn!

It's mostly my own fault, for waiting to buy. But I blame also that
lying sack of ----, Stephen Gardner of Gardner Technologies in
Buffalo. At a point when there were still a few retailers with
stock, he LIED and told me he had units in stock and would ship one
right away. By the time his lie was apparent, nobody else had any
left.

But wouldn't you know it, I went back there yesterday for something
else and they're now out of the LiDE 50 :( It's had Photoshop Elements
bundled, too :(
