Hi all,

Everything with my Laptop and printer appears to be working fine, the
screen looks good....

...but when I print web pages or pictures they ALL print with a
brownish/burnt-orange hue.

Is this a known characteristic ? is there a solution ?

I am using standard printing settings:
Color is set to manual, with ICM enabled.

Are you using and have you always used Canon OEM ink. If so then
someone will try to help you. If not you got what you deserve and
nobody here can help you cause they are all in the same boat but many
will not admit it.

Original OEM Canon ink. But thanks for the kind advice anyway.....

Ignore the troll anyway Howard, it sings the manufacturer's song.

people would help you if they could, but to be honest, as you have
shown, this pixma problem affects many, whether they have used OEM ink
or not. It seems to affect the lower IP range, the 3000 4000 and 5000,
can't speak for the others.

I have read of folks changing printheads with no luck, never mind ink.
takes some doing searching out the problem though.

I find that the lower quality settings on my ip4000 have less of a
brown tint and the black is pure black, but higher quality gives the
brown. You could do a search and see if you can find any help online,
but if you do find a working trick can you post it separately, under a
heading something like

Solution to Pixma brown tint printing.

thanks.

Suggest you try different paper. I use and really like Office Depot Platinum
Professional Photo, it's reasonably priced too. I use a profile I set up
with this paper that includes a paper setting for "transparency", and some
manual color adjustment as well as ICM and a few other tweaks:

Cyan-7
Magenta-1
Yellow-3
Black-0
Intensity-4
ICM-on
Brightness-normal
All photo optimizer and vivid setting off.

You may find the solution to your problem in the use of similar profile
settings with whatever paper you use. Starting with a well-adjusted monitor
is critical to matching prints to your monitor. Hope this helps.

Forgot to mention, those settings are with Formulabs ink, but I use the same
settings with Canon ink.

Many thanks for that clarification, Paul. Much appreciated.

Tks for all that advice Dan. Much appreciated. I will test it out. I
use a Vaio laptop.

Since your printer (I think) uses the photo inks (6 tanks), those settings
probably won't be too good, but it'll get you started. I know a lot of folks
use the transparency paper setting.

I would call Canon Tech Suppt. They are very good and have been known
to replace a printhead even when the unit is out of warranty. One thing
you might try:

Uninstall the print driver

Reboot the system

Install the print driver from the original CD

Reboot the system

Try a test print and see what happens;.

Totally ridiculous. I have an IP4000 that always has had OEM ink and
never a problem. This is the first I have ever heard of a problem like
your with a Pixma. So to tell you that it is a common Pixma problem is
incorrect. It is not.

It does not need a solution since the problem is rare and may be caused
by the driver.

The problem is I actually had a similar problem with my previous PIXMA
printer. I just sucked it up and as it was home based I did nothing
about it.

Over the last 48 hours I have found a huge number of references to this
on the net - so it may not be the 'norm' but it does appear to be
widespread.

Thanks for the advice.

I'm not going to trawl through the whole of the net to satisfy an OEM
troll.

oh goody, do you want to point me to a driver which will fix the
problem?

You probably found the same refs I did, but I get tired of trawling
for answers as I am sure you will. I hope he's right about the drivers
but I'm not downloading another one if he can't guarantee it working

I use a Canon i960 (six color printer) with MIS refill ink. I have tried
several settings and get excellent results with color set to manual, icm not
checked, and the print type on auto. I have photoshop set to no color
profile. One problem people can have is double profiling in which the
program AND the printer are set to profiles. Experiment with different
settings and see which one works best for you. I have our resident troll
killfiled, but he always used to follow my posts with his one-track
responses about OEM ink. I can tell you that I had virtually identical
results with both OEM and MIS inks with the same prints side-by-side. The
i960 leans a bit toward red or magenta with both these inks.

VERY interesting points - Many thanks for those Burt.

He was a moderator in a generic ink group and preaches his stuff when
ever he can. He accepts the fact that his refiller will not tell him
who the formulator of the ink he buys is and accepts the fact that they
will not notify him when they change suppliers so each time he buys he
never knows if he is getting the same thing as the last time.
