Hi
I bought a Canon S530D a few months ago having been fed up with Epson clogs.
I'm really happy with the printer and I've been keeping my eye on the ink
levels in the status monitor.
They haven't moved, until yesterday, when the yellow gave a low ink warning.
At the beginning of the print job, it showed full.
I have the newest printer driver from Canon and for those who aren't
familiar, the printer uses the same BCI - 3e tanks as the i450 etc.

My question is, shouldn't it show some sort of gradual reduction in the ink
level? From full to low in warning in 1 go is a bit unexpected?
Is this 'normal'?

TIA

That's because Canon doesn't "speculate" how many ink is left in container.
It has optical system for recognizing empty cart. It shows warning when ink
container is empty and only sponge is still filled with ink.

Is there a second warning that says the cartridge is actually empty?

I've never waited for one, so I'm not sure.

No. Actually manual says, that when this warning appears, you an safely
finish your current print, then you should replace cart. One one side, it's
a bit annoying, since when a warning appears, you must ruch into store and
buy a new one - or even better, have a spare on in a drawer (or if you
refill, it's better to refill a bit earlier and for that you must look
manually from time to time).

Thanks :)
