New Startup

Hi,
I am about to purchase a Canon i965 for printing out my digital photos but
I am a bit worried about the amount of usage I am going to give it.

I don't print a lot of photos and the printer would probably be sat powered
off for up to 4-5 weeks at a time, is this going to affect the print head ?

I've read a lot of people talking about the head clogging up and was
wondering if leaving it powered off for 4-5 weeks would make the head clog
up ?

Thanks
Peter

For myself I have had the printer 2 weeks and done about 5 prints, with
days powered off...

It seems to do a clean whenever you switch it on, but only if it's been
off longer than a day.

Overall I am impressed with this printer, and I certainly commend the
Canon PR-101 paper and the cheaper Ilford Classic Series. I only do
about 3-4 prints a month (mainly for Photo competitions) and have had no
problems with clogging or banding.

All I have to do now is source a supplier for Inkjet compatible CD's and
a cheaper 4x6 or 5x7 paper.

Output, I am impressed. I gave the camera club a challenge, tell apart
the film based shots and the digital shots, came out 50/50.

TBH it's a bit early to tell if it's going to have problems with the
heads but the I series of Canon printers have been reliable.

I know my lexmark dried out a lot until I read on here that you should
shut it down with switch instead of power strip (like i did for 3
years). You can hear it park if you switch it off but when I shot down
the power strip with main surge protector it didn't make a sound. Don'
t know about your model. I think they all would tend to dry after a few
weeks. Dale

In Word Perfect, I made a page that I can print
that has four color bars about 1/2 inch high going
all the way across the paper.I made them as close
to magenta, cyan, yellow and black as I could get.
Every four or five days I print this page. Seems
to keep the heads from clogging. Before I started
doing this I would get very fine lines in the
print, from time to time. They looked almost like
scratches but they would go away after I ran my
color page. Uses some ink but it is better than
wasting ink and paper on a print you are not
satisfied with.
