My sister ordered an Epson 925 from a well known NYC electronics and
computer retailer located in lower Manhattan, and received the Canon
i950 instead. She's going to keep the Canon since she likes the way
it looks and is happy with the print quality. Was this her good luck
in receiving the Canon or is the Epson the better printer?

Tell her to order a Canon and maybe she'll get the Epson, and can compare
them...

I've always been pleased with Epson, however, the i950 has had some great
reviews and uses individual inks as opposed to the 925's black and 5 colour
combined = cheaper to run.

The 925 does allow you to use roll paper though...probably not a big factor.

Dunno about the US, but the i950 is about 75GBP more expensive here in the
UK.

As long as the pricing is ok, I think she got a better printer out of the
deal.

I have an earlier Epson 870 Photo and now am using a Canon i950.

Roll paper on the 870, while nice in theory is really more trouble than it's
worth. Having to add a very clumsy attachment is a PITA.

I purchased some 4 by 6 paper from Red River and have printed it borderless
thru either PictureIT 2000 or Elements 2.0 with great ease.

Both printers do an excellent job. The i950 works well with the Epson Luster
paper I"ve been using for a few years. I've just started experimenting with
Red River "polar satin" and am getting sold on it. I will probably switch
all my paper requirement there in the future. (I don't print much on glossy
paper.).

Hope hits helps.
