The canon i865 has two interfaces (usb, parallel) and I wonder if I can
therefore use it with two computers at the same time ?

thnx,

Good q, don't think so - but never tried it. It would only take you 2
seconds to try.

But it's probably easier just to network share the printer. That's what I
do.

situation is in fact more complicated :

printer is attached to a linux-host which run occassionally a
vmware-windows-machine. So the linux-host needs to have always access
and the win-guest cannot just use the linux-share, cause the win-printer
has better drivers (especially for photo- and cd-label print)

I'll try to get my hands on a parallel-printer-cable and try out.

peter

As Canon told me, this is possible. Printjobs are processed "first-in
first-out".

I now unburied a second printercable and was able to proove this
statement. This makes the canon i865 actually a even more pricier printer :)

I haven't tried this with the Canon, but I did something similar with
my old Epson Clogjet -- simultaneously hooked up the serial port to my
Mac and the parallel port to my PC -- and it worked fine from both
computers. ("Fine," that is, until I eventually installed some
third-party ink cartridges, whereupon the printer croaked immediately.)
I was always tempted to see what would happen if I tried to print
simultaneously from both computers... but I resisted the temptation!
