I printed up my first page and the I860 almost shot the paper through the
machine. It scared the hell out of me. I thought this was suppose to be a
quite printer. Also, When I printed out two pages on Bestbuy.com it missed
several lines as if it was running out of ink. Again this is the first time
I've used the printer. I adjusted the inkjet tanks when I first installed
the software. All the printer's settings are set to default. Basically I
haven't touched them. I was wondering if anyone could figure it out. Now, I
did rip the little plastice tab of the blue cartridge because I was fumbling
with it. The little tab was what snaps the cartridges into place. Do you
think that could affect the printing quality? I wasn't exactlly impressed
with it's quality on the paper. I have HP 108 brightness and it's 24lb.
Could there be a problem with the paper I chose? TIA

I have the i560. It's definitely quiet, but it's also fast - so it needs to
spit the paper out and begin the next page. My older DeskJet does one page
at a time instead of like the newer printers which start feeding the next
page almost immediately after the first one is done.

I got banding the first time I printed a solid block of red (Christmas
cards) - I haven't tried again so I don't know if it'll go away. That tab
being broken just might have an effect on your print quality...as that's
what holds it in while it's swooshing back and forth printing your
documents.

I have the same paper - HP's Bright White paper. I wasn't too impressed
either. Text was bleeding like it was cheap 20lb copy paper. 22lb HP
general purpose paper seems to work best in both my DeskJet (although it's
much less picky). I've tried HP and Avery paper so far. Looks like I'll
have to try another brand after I exhaust my current supply. It's odd
though - because sometimes it prints perfectly. Same settings, nothing
changed.

Same here! What is the deal with the print quality varying so much when
nothing is changed? Sometimes text is laser quality, and sometimes it
bleeds. (i560). Maybe it depends on which side of the paper you print?

I purchased the i860 after reading several reviews and have NOT been
displeased with the change (HP Photosmart 1115 was the 'old' printer).

My i860 makes a bit more noise initiating the print job than the 1115.
My i860 is a bit slower at initiating the print job than the 1115.
My i860 is almost twice as fast in ALL text printing as the 1115.
My i860 is at least as quiet during the print job as the 1115 (quiet)
My i860 SPITs out the sheet but NOT beyond the extended paper tray.
My i860 is currently printing 4x6s onto the test paper included, WOW!

I am changing paper to RedRiver and / or Canon. The paper issue is more
than LIKELY the cause of varied output!

If you broke the ink cartridge, you will experience varied output from
that color/cart. Replace it, they are MUCH less expensive than HPs.

I've not used Canons before. Always been HP. But this is a fast, quiet
and sharp machine. It ranks at a 88 - 92% machine. For the money.

I printed out some notes last night. All text, back and front. Laser
quality on both sides. Odd part is that even after it had been drying for
nearly 12 hours it still smeared. Perhaps it's the humid weather here...
Well, I guess I'll have to keep my HP DeskJet for more important text
printing. Smearing ink wouldn't make a good impression :0P. Just out of
curiousity, how long have you had your i560? I just got mine... So far I'm
not sure if it's all hype - text quality is extremely important to me and
this printer fails miserably in that respect if it can't even be consistent
with either poor or excellent print quality.
