Canon i860 photo quality questions

Debbie

I'm thinking on getting this printer but I'm concerned in the photo
quality with only 3 colors. It would be replacing my Canon S820
(clodded print head) which had 5 colors.

Can you see any dots when printing photos. What about color tones and
color matching?

I have read several review about the i860 about the 2 black cartridges
and the concept sound cool, but have not really found anything about
how the photo quality relates to my old printer which was great.

I also have read a bit about the print head technology being different
with this printer vs the S820 so it is less apt to clog. Is this true
and can some explain that more.

Thanks,
Debbie

I had a Canon S900 6-colour photo printer before buying an i865 (same as
i860 but with disc printing capability). So far only printed at 6x4 but
the photos compare very well with the S900 - certainly at least as good,
I'd need to print more...but they might even be better thanks to the
finer dots 2pl versus 4 pl which seems to make up for the lack of photo
inks.

I have the i850 four colors, after having had the bjc 8200 six colors.
You can definitely see the dots with a magnifier on the i850, though
the photo prints are still very good. I refill and it's easier to
deal with four colors than six, but most of my prints are 4x6's. For
serious photo work you'd want a six color printer.

I believe the i850 is a totally different setup than the i860. The
i860 has 2 picoliter nozzles while the i850 has larger ones. As far
as individual colors, I have the i860 and am extremely happy with it.
Technically it has five separate colors. C,M,Y,BL, photo BL.

Hey Debbie, I just bought the I860 and am very pleased with it. I've been
printing a lot of 4x6 using the included 4x6 feeder and have also been
printing a lot of 8x10 and think the quality is very good, I also like this
printer because it is fast and very quite, well worth the money. I've also
had very good results using the Picbridge connection with my Canon 300D, the
output from the printer matches what I see on the lcd perfectly. I had
wanted the I9100 but couldn't justify it's higher price tag after spending
so much on the 300D.

Thanks, that just confirmed it.

Speaking of which, and I apologize if this has been covered before...

Can anyone tell me _exactly_ why the US (and other countries) keep getting
screwed out of the CD printing capabilities ?
