Have just finished setting up a new i560 on an XP system and find that
it is taking a long time to start to print. Prior printer always
started immediately on text pages, but the i560 is taking up to 40
seconds to start to print a one page test document. It is setup to
spool and start to print immediately. It is on the parallel port, but
this never slowed down Epson printers used prior to this. The print
quality and speed after starting are just fine. Driver seems to be the
right one (i.e. from the enclosed CD with printer). Any thoughts as to
where to start to troubleshoot. Did not try USB since I prefer to leave
those ports for other peripherals. TIA Dave Danforth

Hi, Dan,

I installed an i560 about two weeks ago on a Win98 (first edition)
machine. I used the parallel connection, and the driver that was
supplied on the install cd. Printing a test page or a simple text page
is near immediate.

I'd check the bios to see if ECP was enabled.

By the way, the print quality of the i560 is very nice.

Thanks to both Billy and Bruce for answers. Tried out each suggestion
without success, but then I looked at Canon info and starting
troubleshooting as though it did not print at all. One suggestion was
to uncheck the ECP box in printer setup and that cured the problem. Not
sure why this was necessary since my BIOS is set to use an ECP port.
Any thoughts on this and what could I be giving up? Dave Danforth
