I've got an old HP 895Cxi that I've had for a long time, and it works
alright, although I just hate the thought of paying so much for new
cartridges, and the waste if one cartridge goes out.

The Canon i560 constantly gets good reviews, but I wonder if I could
get some unbiased advice. Whenever I'm in an electronics store and
they have the printer out hooked up to a demo switch, the print out
usually has banding in it, and the text isn't very crisp (it seems to
bleed.)

I want to know your impressions with this printer. If you are in a
store and see a demo unit, compare it to your printer.

I'm also thinking of using generic cartridges from Atlanticinkjet.com
to run it, any thoughts on that? $15 for the 4 of them isn't too bad.
I'm mainly concerned with plain paper/inkjet paper printouts (web
sites and such) (color and b/w) and sharp text. Photos are not a huge
concern for me.

If anyone can compare it to the HP in the class I have, that'd be
great. Responses to the group please.

Thanks.

I also can reccoment you the i850. I'm using it now and it make's great
prints. And order it on-line and it's almost the same price or better then
that i560. It was the same price then when you bought the i550 in a normal
store. So succes...

I picked up one (I560) for a friend.............

Staples $129 rebate $30.......or Sams Club $99.

Printed a draft off the net......just fine & fast....

Printed a game walkthrough on "high resolution paper"...very nice, even in
the details......

Finally imported a few pictures to CorelDraw & printed them on Office Depot
Photo paper.......Excellent......very close to a 6 ink printer.

If the price difference isn't that much, check out the higher # models.

I believe you will be satisfied!

I recently replaced my HP660C with a i560 and am very happy. The text
is extremely sharp and I was amazed with the quality of its photo
output. Recommended.
Haven't replaced the carts yet so can't comment on 3rd-party units but
I do plan on using them when the time comes. Check out
http://www.alotofthings.com/ for ink supplies.

My i550 does not exhibit any banding.

I use cartridges from http://inkjetsaver.com/3cp.html , at about $3 each.

I've been through about 8 black cartridges with no problem. Only the first
was Canon OEM.

I've been through 3 sets of color cartridges. There are three colors per
set. Some colors may last a month or two longer than other colors. Two of
the color sets were Canon OEM, so I have less experience with the non-Canon
color cartridges.

The i560, like the i860, uses BCI-6 series cartridges. The i550 uses the
BCI-3 series.

Along with the difference in cartridges, there's a difference in print
heads. The i560 has has 512 nozzles for the cyan and magenta colors, versus
256 for the i550.

The i860 has five cartridges, four for photo printing, and a pigment based
black cartridge for text.

Have you considered the Canon i860. I just got one and I couldn't see
how a 3 color printer could do so good. It has a text black and photo
black cartridge along with cyan, magenta and yellow, separate
cartridges. Photos print beautifully and it is fast. I was amazed
and did I mention fast.
I purchased mine at Staples for $149 and then I will receive a $20
gift card also.

Debbie',

Have you been able to establish what is meant by a compatible camera?
What I mean is, has it been worked out what cameras will work with the
Pict Bridge capability? We have an Olympus Digital camera.

Thanks.

Which Olympus camera? I know you're eager to go get that new printer, but
why not take a moment to look at your camera and tell the group about it?

FYI:

Oct 2003: Olympus Announces 5 New PictBridge-Compatible Digital Cameras:

CAMEDIA X-250

CAMEDIA C745 Ultra Zoom

CAMEDIA C-755 Ultra Zoom

µ-15 DIGITAL

µ-25 DIGITAL

'John',

It's an Olympus Camedia C-120 Digital Compact Camera.

Thanks,
Emrys Davies.

You know I have only had the printer for about a week now so I have
not tried that feature out, but I know it will come in handy when I
use my old 8mg memory card. It is not usb compatible and our jumpshot
will not read it. I don't like having to connect my camera up to the
PC and go into it's software to view the pics. So it will be fun to
have this option.

I do know that it is good on ink. I have printed a few photos and
about 50 text pages and ink shows no usage as of yet.

Replaced 3 Lexmark printers with an i560.

I have added a Canon specific print server module from Pricom to
network the printer. Works perfect. I can print from any network PC or
my laptop from the shop. The Pricom device allows full bi-directional
communications. I have the printer to come on when a print job is
received and shut itself down 5 minutes later. I get direct feedback
for paper out and other problems. I tried a D-link and Hawking server.
Neither worked for the Canon. The Pricom is made just for a Canon.
E-mail me if you need more info.

I added a system that refills the ink wells from bottles connected by
a series of tubes to larger bottles. I just check the bottles and top
them off as needed.
E-mail me if you need more info.

The three Lexmark printers were getting to be a pain. The i560 has
simplified this task.

Now if I could just fill the printer with a ream or two.
