Canon i550 - excess ink tank nearly full (intensive cleaning?)

The printer produces 8 x amber fault report flashes = ink overflow tank
(intensive cleaning-) nearly full.

The local dealer wants 60?/90$ to have this tank emptied.

Can anybody tell me how to do it myself? Does anybody have an exploded-
diagram of the printer?

(In the regular handbook there is only the indication that one needs a
service engineer to get this done - too bloody expensive!)

Thanks in advance for any tips.

it's possible to reset this counter my yourself. However you must first
empty it...or rather clean it, since it's not really a tank, but only some
sort of a sponge. However you will have to disassemble quite big part of a
printer in order to get to this sponge.
resetting counter:

Start with the printer OFF

1. Hold down RESUME and then hold down POWER
2. release RESUME
3. press RESUME twice, then release POWER
4. Let green light blink until printer is done futzing

Select function with RESUME press POWER to execute:

presses - light color - function

0 - green - Test print (or exit service mode on i960)
1 - orange - EEPROM info print (plus grid nozzle diagnostic on i960)
2 - green - EEPROM initialize
3 - orange - reset waste ink counter
