Canon i450 for $50. Ok?

This would be for very low volume printing, mostly text, but some
web pages or pdf files. No photos. It looks like the i550 would
cost twice as much. Need to be able to leave it off for extended
periods without clogging or drying out.

The only negative I see is the little BCI-24 cartridges, which I
understand don't hold much ink.

Is this a reasonable buy? (At Office Depot.)

The ink costs will eat up any savings on the purchase price of the printer.
The i560 is now available and is the heir apparent to the i850. Sam's Club
has them for $99.00. They use BCI-3 cartridges which are very easy and
inexpensive to refill. Besides impressive speed and the overall cost
savings, text and graphics print quality is outstanding. If you can find an
i550 that would also be a good machine although not quite up to the i560 or
i850.

Yes, the cartridges are quite small -- for mainly occasional b/w text or
webpage printing, it's cheap enough to run. The color cartridge holds 15ml
if I'm not mistaken, and it's around $18. Overall, it's a decent low usage
printer. I have the Canon i320 for a second computer, and so far I haven't
had any clogging problems. I rarely print on that computer -- and as it is,
I haven't printed anything for a few months now.

$50 sounds like a good deal... You might also want to look at the HP
DeskJet 3820 which is around $50 after rebate now.
