My son just bought a Canon i350 and is planning on using refills.
Does the cartridge have to be reset to show ink levels? If so, is
there a page where it gives instruction on how?

That line of Canons have nothing to do with chipped cartridges.
Ink levels are stored on the EEPROM on the printer, and are reset in
the maintenance tab of the printer properties. If you have it set
right it will ask you if you changed the ink carts, and if yes, which
ones, and reset the counter.

Thanks, I appreciate the info. I thought it might be like my 5550,
where you have to screw around with taping contacts.

Which make of 5550? HP, I presume, as contact taping is a method to
fool the ink monitoring/chipped carts of HP printers.
