I cannot get past the device not recognized pop-up although the laptop seems
to know all is connected

The hv20 is an HD cam and will not work with MM2.1, which is why you can't
get passed this step.

Try adobe premiere elements 3 or the very latest versions of pinnacle studio
or Ulead Video studio

I was able to get the older movie maker (ver 5.1) to recognize the camcorder
and download the movies. I had to use the function button to tell the
camcorder that it wasn't DVD/HD but was just DV. The Canon tech support
person told me that MM ver 6.0 would recognize HD.

I'm just trying to figure out how to update my MM. I already have SP2 and
it never updated my MM. There seems to be no separate update for it. Do you
know where it is?

Maybe it isn't worth it after all if MM can't recognize HD.

I have to say that I complained to Canon. It seems absurd that they sell a
top-of-the-line HD camcorder but offer NO support to work with the movies
digitally.

Movie Maker version 6 comes with Vista... and you would need the Home
Premium or Ultimate version to have HD features.

See the chart on my website's Vista > Intro page.

I have XP SP2. It is supposed to be able to get MM ver 6.0. That's the way
I read the site. But my SP2 doesn't have it.

===============================
Sorry...but Movie Maker 6 is for Vista and
will not install or run on Windows XP.

The 5.1 you see when you go to...Help - About...
is your Windows version...your Movie Maker
version would be 2.1.
