I have a Canon F60 Scanner/Printer that has been working well on a Win
2000 Machine. I got a new machine with XP Service Pack 2 and I
downloaded the latest drivers, but XP refuses to recognize the drivers
when I insert the USB cable.

Is there something special that needs to be done to make the printer
work with XP? I assume that it should work with XP as there are 2
fixes for XP SP2.

Thanks

Did you connect the cable before you installed the driver? If so, do it the
other way round, install the driver and wait for XP to ask you to connect the
printer.

Yes. I tried both ways. The issue is that XP on 4 machines tells me
that the driver is invalid. The Canon web site states that it should
work with XP and even has a SP2 patch!

I hate to loose the scanner, but I wonder if I could use some other
generic driver shipped with XP?

It doesn't appear that XP has built in drivers for this printer.
Also there is no mention that I can find of any problems with this printer and
XP SP2 once the patch is applied.
I can only suggest that you call Canon, if you have not already done so.
Alternatively post this question to microsoft.public.windowsxp.print_fax and
ask the very helpful folks there.
