Hi Dan,
I noticed this post and had some suggestions on possible causes to your
dilema but refrained since I didn't want to mislead you. I'm not
initimately familiar with the 9080c model but, based on the
specifications and the typical causes of images appearing the way
you've described- I'll just make a comment... (since it doesn't look
like you've gotten too many other responses yet)
Determine if it's a hardware or software settings:
A. you already eliminated the pc as causing the issues by swapping
scanners and seeing that the problem followed the scanner ( this is
going to save you a lot of time checking driver settings, etc... )
- the only exception to this rule is if it's possible to configure the
color drop out from the scanner hardware & if the settings from the
hardware would override the software/driver settings
B I'm pretty sure all of Canon's DR Series scanners have CIS CMOS
optics (for now). CIS CMOS is the economical choice because it's very
efficient and cheap. CIS doesn't use high intensity xeon lamps like
most CCD scanners; they use an LED array (Red, Green, Blue). It's
theoretically possible that if one or more of the color elements were
to fail, that you'd be left with an all blue image. Usually this would
also wash the color blue out of your monochrome scanning. It's a
hardware method of color dropout to use a single color illumination to
drop that same color out of bitonal scanning of documents.
I'd suggest isolating it down even further on the 9080c in question by
one simple test: scan a couple batches duplex (without blank page
deletion turned on) as a test. This should tell you if the problem is
with the frontside CIS or backside.
Keep a close eye on that scanner if the problem is intermittent. I'm
suprised the hardware didn't trigger an alarm if a LED failed to
illuminate- but it's possibly in the early stages of failure.
If the 9080 has consumable LED arrays -swap them out. Canon's FAQs or
support should be contacted for assistance if the problem continues -
keep in mind, that this is what they do everyday for a living (I did
the same thing for another company for several years)... Take advantage
of their resources- especially if it's a free service.
hope this helps
Danny
