Greetings,
This could be a question for a Canon or printer newsgroup, but I couldn't
find one, so I'm posting here.
Win XP with above mentioned printer, printer been fine for a couple of years
until a few days ago, I tried to print a routine document that I have have
printed many times before, and all I got was a bunch of letters and
characters that did not form words at all, just a whole bunch of @@@@[[[[[,
mixed in with letters from the alphabet, and other characters that I dont
know what they are.Even when I tried the nozzle test pattern, it did the
same thing.I bought and installed a new print head, with no help.I have
unplugged the printer and rebooted the comp. no-help.I tried changing the
driver, no help.I have emailed Canon support and am waiting for a
reply.Should I try deleting the printer and reinstalling? What else can I
do?
Any help is appreciated,
Jim

Cari,
Thanks for your help. I did just what your article said, deleted printer and
downloaded driver from Canon and it is doing the same thing! What else could
it be?

It could be a faulty print head although I've never seen this - and I've had
plenty of bad print heads using 4xxx series printers.. they usually manifest
in just not printing anything at all!

So my best guess is that something has gone wrong inside the printer itself.
It may be time to think about something a little newer. Although the 4xxx
for its day were a great range of printers, the ink certainly isn't cheap
and they are slow by today's printers.
