I am using Windows XP professional and had no problems
with printing.
However, the last few days my printer doesn't print, i
tried printing from DOS mode, still it doesn't work.
My printer does the self test, i removed and reconfigured
the LPT1, my printer is being detected automatically
still it just doesn't work.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

Replace the print head on the BJC-4200. They wear out. When I used the
4xxx series (I had three of them at one time) I had them last anywhere from
6 months to 18 months. The large black unit comes with a new print head...
the print head with the two separate color tanks has a separate print head
(luckily enough if you buy the print head, it does come with a new color and
black tank.) Unfortunately it's going to set you back about $49.

However in the long run they're expensive printers to keep.

You might want to think about purchasing one of the newer Canon range....
their resolution is MUCH better, they're faster... and with the use of
separate cyan, magenta and yellow ink cartridges, much cheaper to refill.

I found I always ran out of magenta first.... and then had to replace the
whole of the color tank.... wasting all that cyan and yelow ink. With the
new ones, I just purchase the magenta tank. In the long run, economics is
important! I believe statistics show the average PC is replaced every two
years, however the average printer is replaced only ever five years.

I've heard good reports about the i550 (with the 4 separate tanks).... I
have an i950 which is superb. The S520 is shortly being discontinued...
which means you should find good offers on this one!

Last time I asked they were $92.00 from canon.
You can buy a new color printer for that.

Well you were using a hotmail email address, and hotmail is a US based email
service (although obviously available worldwide)... unless you actually
state which country you are from, I have to assume any hotmail person is US
based.

That is a very broad assumption indeed as you
stated Hotmail is a world wide user system.
Looking at an address of hotmail or Yahoo or similar tells you nothing.
I could use the same analogy of saying as you have .com after yours you
are in USA and that would be dangerous assumption as well.
It may have been true in early days of internet but certainly not nowadays.
Anyway if you look a little harder its OLDhotmail...a nonexistent address.

From Down under.

OK then, if this satisfies you better.......

All prices quoted for ink cartridges, print heads, printers etc are in US$ -
UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED. They're usually the cheapest prices anyway.

Ink cartridges cost a LOT more in Europe than the US, my brother in law from
London always stocks up when he comes over. He took back about 15 Epson
cartridges last month. Supply = Demand. Lots more PCs in the US therefore
they need lots more printers... therefore the greater the number of
cartridge sales and the cheaper they will be. Basic Economics 101.
