My 820 will put a small horizontal ink mark on a photo print near the top of
the page. It comes from residual ink at the edge of the print head. If I
clean the bottom of the print head I can cure the problem for a little
while. I also clean the rubber wipers. Anybody else having this problem?
If so, how did you fix it.

Thanks

Just to cofirm you are not alone. I've used the S820 for our JetTec ink
tests for quite a while now. It intermittently produces these ink blots - no
matter what. So out come the cartridges, the head, and a clean later all is
well.
It can also produce the Amber light error - indicating paper blockages,
when there are none.
Again a clean and it prints perfectly again. It seems that any superfluos
ink under the head triggers blots and then a blockage error incorrectly.

I had the same problem with my 820 , it drove me nuts then I figured it out.
What I found was the waste ink tank ( way in the back on the extreme right
side) has a sponge in it that was really soaked with ink and sticking up a
bit and sometimes the head would touch that mess and get smeared with ink.

I took out the sponge, washed it clean in alchohol ( wear gloves or you will
be green for days!) and then put it back in making sure it was sitting flat.
Cleaned the bottom of the head with folded paper towels and then a few
sheets of paper until everything was nice and clean.
Problem solved, and it hasn't come back in 6 months ( about 8 sets of ink)
The sponge is folded double and stuck on a little hook, use a flashlight and
a long forcipes or tweezers to get it in and out, and be careful, it's
delicate in there.
