Hello all... I am here wondering if my Canon scanner is damaged somehow...

It is about two years old but used _very_ little during that period, maybe
few scans per month. It has worked ok for now. I use it via USB1.1 and my
operating system is WinXPSP1, there hasn't ever been any connection etc.
problems.

Now suddenly when I make a scan (or preview) it gives me just plain black
(RGB0,0,0) picture?? No matter what I try to scan. I have checked that the
scanner is not locked (of course it is not :), the lamp works ok, it
operates mechanically just like earlier, no error messages on computer,
self-tested it, calibrated it with CanoScan, re-installed driver etc. etc.

To make sure that it is not computer or driver related problem I connected
it to another computer -> same black pic. So it has something to do with
that scanner itself...

Could that damn machine be broken now?? There is no warranty left of
course.. :( I would barely understand it if were under heavy use all this
time.. but no, it is practically like new, just maybe max 200 scans made
during these 2 years.

This was my first Canon scanner after Epson and Umax models, and if it's now
gone it will be my last also..

Any ideas?
