I have a Canon 2580C, a compact and very nice high-speed scanner -
when its working.

I purchased it used and installed this a few months ago, tested it and
everything seemed to work allright. I haven't used it since until
today.

The simple act of getting it to scan a page or a batch won't work! I
click the scan page button and all I get is "The system cannot
find the path specified."

I have uninstalled and re-installed the Capture Perfect software and
the Canon driver, but no change. This is very frustrating because I
have no idea what this message means, or why it should decide that it
doesn't want to work anymore when it worked fine when I got it.

Does anyone have any idea what this could mean and how i can get my
computer and scanner to talk to each other?

"Cannot find the path specified" probably means that the shortcut is
pointing to the wrong location.

Have you moved any files around on your computer? Maybe you have moved
shortcuts in the Menu and then reinstalled the program(s) and you are using
an old shortcut in the menu.

Are you using the ISIS or the TWAIN interface?

If you have the TWAIN driver installed, then try scanning with a photo
editor.
Irfanview is a good free viewer with a TWAIN interface.
