Thanks for taking the time to look,

I have a file I need to be on CD-R, it wont copy. I cannot rename it or
delete it, even using the xp tricks to get rid of undeleteable files. Either
way I cannot get any access to it, it says the file is being used by other
apps.

This is not possible as it is a firmware update for a stand-alone dvd/hdd
recorder. I think this might be symptoms of deeper windows issues. However
I am completely baffled.

I have downloaded process explorer to try and find the culprit but no luck.
I have tried downloading to a different location and exactly the same errors
occur. My drive still writes to removeable media just not this file!

Primarily I just want to delete it now, but its very stubborn. Any
uber-tricks left out there?

Have you tried booting from a bootable CD such as Knoppix and deleting the
file from there?
