Hello people!

I just recently recovered my computer (sorta?) from a pretty nasty
virus/trojan/cws infection and now I'm noticing that while everything is nice
and clean (save for cws_tiny0 that I can't remove to save my life), I can no
longer hit ENTER to go to a web address that I type into IE. Likewise, the
GO button does nothing when clicked.

I've tried Control Panel > Remove Windows Components and reinstalling IE,
but I've still got the same problem.

Many thanks in advance for any help or advice offered.

What OS are you running?
While you are still infected with whatever,
you can expect to experience unwanted behavior.

I have no knowledge about Ewido Security Suite and
whether it would cost money or is free. I just found that
link by doing a Google search.

Currently running Windows XP Home Edition SP1. (SP2 screws up a lot of
things that I like about Windows XP Home . . . of course, it's been so long
since I've tried SP2 I can't even remember what it screws up...)

Hijack This, Spy Sweeper, Ad-Aware, and CWS Shredder have all failed to
permanently remove CWS_tiny0 from the computer. Ad-Aware doesn't even find
it. I've downloaded the Ewido Security Suite, but I don't have much faith in
it being able to do anything, but I'll give it a shot.

Hi Frank!

Actually, I'm 100% positive that 100% of the stuff that's shown in my HJT
scan is supposed to be there. Everything in it is clearly recognized as
something I want on my computer (all 15 items in it).

As of this post, I've run Ewido Security Suite and found and deleted a bunch
of things. (Kudos to ESS, I was wrong about it.) Unfortunately, nothing it
did changed the fact that I couldn't use ENTER/Go in the IE address bar.

I've resorted to going back to a System Restore point about the time this
all started.

Somewhere in the work I've been doing on this, someone or something told me
to turn off System Restore, then clean, then turn it back on so as to avoid
the corrupted/virused files from being restored from in there. Sadly, that
gives me 1 restore point to work with now, the one right after I first
started getting bombed with popups and stuff. On the positive side though,
at least I solved my own problem! I can use IE and type in an address and
hit enter or go and the pages are finally displayed.

However, I've got all those infected files to clean out:

Trojan Horse found: berbew trojan
Adware found: cws_ns3
Trojan Horse found: trojan-backdoor-securemulti
Adware found: cws_xplugin
Trojan Horse found: trojan-downloader-ruin
Trojan Horse found: spamrelayer_alpiok
Adware found: cws-aboutblank
Trojan Horse found: trojan_downloader_tibser
Trojan Horse found: trojan-downloader-perlink.biz
Adware found: coolwebsearch (cws)
Trojan Horse found: trojan-secdrop

These are what Spy Sweeper just found and is about to fix... Wish me luck...

Ok, Spy Sweeper found all of these ... but "Dlifmc32.exe" was in use and
caused an error when Spy Sweeper went to restart the computer and clear
things out of memory.

I clicked End Now for "Dlifmc32.exe" and when the computer rebooted, I went
to Safe Mode and deleted this file manually from the System32 folder. Again,
rebooted the computer and allowed the normal startup this time.

When the computer finished booting, I ran Spy Sweeper again and it kicked
out 3 things from the above list again. I had it remove them and no restart
was required. Then I went into Options for Spy Sweeper and added the System
Restore folders for scanning.

42 things were displayed after the 16 minute full system, scan everything on
the hard drive, scan. Every single one was located in the System Restore
folder. I allowed Spy Sweeper to delete every one of them.

I turned off System Restore (again, deleting all current System Restore
info) and ran the full system scan again with Spy Sweeper. No infected files
remaining.

And best of all, Internet Explorer works as good/bad as ever. (Note: Ewido
Security Suite functionality/reliability is still questionable in my opinion
as it didn't really fix anything, only found a lot of stuff. But at least it
did find a lot of stuff...)

Thanks for all the help! Case closed.
