Cannot use "Connect Automaticaly" box - Can anyone help please ?

It is possible to connect with what I guess is the MS default dialler but I
can tick the "Save Password" box and I can tick the "Connect Automatically"
box, as neither are greyed out. However, if I tick the "Connect
Automatically" box it never remembers it.
This happened a couple of weeks ago and after getting the thing in a mess a
complete reformat of my hard drive was necessary.
Discretion is the better part of valour so I am asking this time.
I would point out that MS could not sort it out last time !
The internal ADSL modem is a GlobespanVirata DSL modem.

Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

Hi Nigel,

This process will help: It works for OE/AC/XP

Go to Start/Run and type in: services.msc
Scroll down to Protected Storage and verify that the service is started.
