Cannot turn on Media Player mini-mode

When I right click on the task bar and select
toolbars/windows media player nothing happens. Media
Player minimizes to a normal button on the taskbar
instead of the mini-mode control panel.

Any ideas on how to turn this on? Other items on the
toolbars menu activate as expected and show a check mark,
but clicking on Windows Media Player, has no effect - not
even a check mark appears.

Thanks,

Tom

Hi Tom,

This can happen if this subkey is corrupt or missing:

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{0A4286EA-E355-44FB-8086-AF3DF7645BD9}\Implemented
Categories\{00021492-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}]

Run the undo on line 293:

Once done end process on explorer.exe via the Task Manager then re-run
explorer.exe or log off/log on.

Now for an even harder quesion... How in the H#$$ would I
go about figuring that out on my own? Do you have to be
an insider to get that kind of detail, or are there books
available that list this kind of information?

Thanks,

Tom

Hi Tom,

Most welcome. As for your questions, the CLSID's is the first place to
look. Other than that, you would have to use Regmon on a system that does
have the Media Player Toolbar listed and start your troubleshooting from
there.

However, in this case, it wouldn't have pointed you to that section of the
registry at all. These sorts of knowns are from working on numerous other
taskbar/toolbar edits and scripts.

As for inside information, none that know of. As for books, I don't read
them, so wouldn't know. :o)
