I have a weird problem that developed itself about November 2004, where I
need to reboot my Win XP Pro SP1 system any time I wish to swap the IP
connection adapter.
For example I might be in on a fixed LAN, then try to connect to a wireless
LAN, originally DHCP would pick up the new IP address fine. However now the
symptoms are that which ever adapter I start with connects with DHCP fine and
then which ever adapter I then swap too will show that it is connected , send
packets, but recieve no more than 2 and never get a IP address from DHCP,
defaulting to an automatic private address.
I have tried running through the CMD prompt, ipconfig /release and /renew,
the /renew command returns that the IP address could not be released.
Windows Zero Wirless Configuration is running, and starts automatically.
I have also tried to reset IP Stack using netsh command, with no change to
the symptoms. Is there a known problem with XP and DHCP networking across
multiple connections?
I can't think of any other thing that I should try to resolve this rather
annoying problem, any help anybody can give me would be greatly appreciated.
My hardware is as follows:-
DELL C640 running Win XP Pro with SP1
Adapters are:-
3COM 3C920 Ethernet Controller
OriNOCO 801.11abg ComboCard Gold
Sierra Wirless GPRS Adapter
PCTEL 2304WT V92. MDC Modem
