Cannot send to members of Distribution List

I created a distribution list from scratch, saved, am able to open and edit
it at will but when trying to send a message to the DL, the "To:" field does
not underline the name and i cannot find the list in the "check names" popup
that occurs and says that "Microsoft Office does not recognize ___".

I'm using the 2003 version of outlook.

Any suggestions?
 
State how you created the DL, where it resides, and how you included it in
your Outlook Address Book Service. Verify that Service is working in your
profile.
