correctly, and you can connect to your e-mail server."

Does this happen for administrators also? It sounds like
a permissions problem.

Good. I would go and get filemon or regmon from
www.sysinternals.com and run it as an admin while a normal
user tries to get the errors you posted. Look in the
output of regmon or filemon for access denied error
messages, which would indicate incorrect NTFS permissions
on a registry entry or file.

Sorry, I have to take back what I said earlier. I am working with two new
servers and forgot which one I was on at the time.

So, the issue is as described earlier (see below) however the issue does
effect admins. I have built two new servers (several times) and I have gone
to great lengths to document each step to insure all our Terminal Servers
are built alike. As it stand right now, I have built two new server that are
just alike, the issue occurs on one but not the other and it does effect all
users admins included.

Thanks

Hi,

From the error message: "Word could not load the e-mail envelope. This
could be caused by a network connection problem or a problem with your
Office installation."

The issue may be caused by that the Office can't find the installation
file. If you install the Office on the Terminal server from the Office
installation CD, please put the Office installation CD into the CD-ROM. If
you install it from the network share, please make sure the computer can
access the share well. Then, let's see whether this works.

Please also install the Windows 2000 SP4 to the terminal server.

Well...regardless, I would still run filemon or regmon on
that system just to see what is going on. You might have
an incorrect path somewhere that is causing things to
manfunction.

Using Filemon I found that the user (ztest) is trying to access another
users (terryl) file/profile and is of course denied access.

OUTLOOK.EXE:1816 OPEN C:\Documents and Settings\terryl\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook\outitems.log FILE NOT FOUND Options: Open Access:
All
OUTLOOK.EXE:1816 OPEN C:\Documents and Settings\terryl\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook\outitems.log FILE NOT FOUND Options: Open Access:
All
OUTLOOK.EXE:1816 CREATE C:\Documents and Settings\terryl\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook\outitems.log ACCESS DENIED DOMAIN\ztest

If Outlook is already open Send To | Mail Recipient works

WINWORD.EXE:2492 OPEN C:\Documents and Settings\ztest\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook\ SUCCESS Options: Open Directory Access: All
WINWORD.EXE:2492 DIRECTORY C:\Documents and Settings\ztest\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook\ SUCCESS FileBothDirectoryInformation: *.NK2
WINWORD.EXE:2492 DIRECTORY C:\Documents and Settings\ztest\Application

WINWORD.EXE:2492 QUERY INFORMATION C:\Documents and

Data\Microsoft\Outlook\%username%.NK2 SUCCESS
WINWORD.EXE:2492 CLOSE C:\Documents and Settings\ztest\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook\ SUCCESS

On our other Terminal Servers Outlook does not have to be already open.

Thanks

Ahh...so in this case, where is it getting that
information aboiut a previous user? Is that stored in the
registry, and if so, what happens if you run regmon?

Hi,

How about leave the Outlook closed as the other Terminal server and see
whether the server works well?

If still not, how about totally remove the Office application on the
Terminal server. Then reinstall them?

Please also make sure you have installed Win2k SP4.

see attached. again ztest is a domain user that seems to be trying to access
user terryl's profile.

If Outlook is closed the error occurs. I have gone to great lengths to
document the install of our Terminal Servers to insure that they are all
exactly alike. I have completely rebuild this server the error still occurs.
Non of our other servers are running Win2K SP4. Non of our other servers
have this issue.

Hi,

I want to make sure that you installed the Office XP SP2. The Outlook
version is also the Outlook XP SP2. You also configure to use the Outlook
to send the mail.

If your Outlook is 2000 or 2003, you will encounter the error. It's by
design.

If you have the Outlook and Word and Excel of the same version, let's
backup and remove the registry key:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Outlook\Journal Outlook Item Log File

Then, let's see whether this works.

Deleting the registry key:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Outlook\Journal Outlook Item Log File
does resolve the issue for an individual user however this does not resolve
the issue for all users. Deleting this registry key on only this one server
for hundreds of users with roaming profiles is not a simple task. In
general, I have found that any editing that must be done in the HKCU
registry key on an individual Terminal Server is very difficult at best.

This server is different from the others in that it contains the following
registry key where as the others do not.
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Terminal
Server\Install\Software\MICROSOFT\Office\10.0\Outlook\Journal

It seems that removing this key resolves the issue for all users.

Thanks
