Do you have your Anti Virus set to scan incoming and outgoing emails. Disable that feature and test.

Also do you have any anti spam set to check your emails

According to
http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=13287

1) Try smtp port 465
I got the following error message
The connection to the server has failed. Subject '', Account:
'GeneralGmail', Server: 'smtp.gmail.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 465,
Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

2) Try smtp port 587
Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Subject '', Account: 'GeneralGmail', Server: 'smtp.gmail.com',
Protocol: SMTP, Port: 587, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10053, Error

Thanks for your reply.

1) I do not have any Anti Virus set to scan incoming and outgoing emails.
Disable that feature and test.
2)I do not have any anti spam set to check my email
3) I use Vista and only allow windows defender on to protect my computer,
does that affect my win email?

Did you enable Pop3 capability/access on your account after logging on
to the gmail web site ?

Settings for OE, OL, Windows Mail, Windows Live Mail
username of the form (e-mail address removed), enter password, check remember
password
Incoming: pop.gmail.com, Port 995, SSL encryption
Outgoing: smtp.gmail.com, Port 465 or 567, SSL encryption
Outgoing Server requires authentication, and use same settings as
incoming mail server.
...winston
MS-MVP Windows Live Mail

Thanks Brink and Winston, I don't have problem to delete my email and I'm
pretty sure I set everything right, including the issue mentioned by Winston:
enabling gmail pop access and tried smtp port 465 and 587 (the test results
have been listed in my previous reply)

Thank you both anyway....This is really frustrated because I can use the
same setting at another computer in my office, which is running XP system.
