The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'mail.comcast.net', Server:
'mail.comcast.net', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error:
10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

I cannot receive or send emails ever since my sister in law came for a visit
and borrowed my computer. I get the above message. I have tried removing my
information under Tools and restarting my computer. I have verified my Pop
information, etc. I do not have any spyware or other software running, as
suggested in other help threads. I need help!!!!

Hi

Look here:

http://www.comcast.net/help/faq/index.jsp?faq=EmailOutlook_Express17686

for instructions on how to configure OE to receive email. Their website
doesn't provide info ref Vista or Windows Mail but the OE instructions
should help as you sound like you can find your way around POP3 settings and
where to find them. I know you've checked your settings but just to be sure
check them again.

This link:

http://64.233.169.104/search?q=cach...r+Number:+0x800CCC0E&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=2&gl=uk

refers to a Tiscali account but if you follow the instructions replacing any
commands with your own comcast settings this may be of help.

Unfortunately the Telnet command is turned off by default in Vista but to
get it follow this:

Open the Programs and Features Control Panel applet (Start, Control Panel,
Programs and Features).
Select "Turn Windows features on or off."
Select the Telnet Client option and click OK.
A dialog box appears, confirming the installation of new features. After
installation is complete, close the main Programs and Features Control Panel
applet. The telnet command should now be available.

I tried everything in both links you provided but the "drastic" measures
listed at the end of the second link. Should I do that? It is very hard
following the directions on that link because I believe I have different
programs. We have Vista and Windows Mail. Is Outlook and Windows Mail the
same thing??? I cannot tell you how frustrating this situation is becoming.
Thank you for your assistance.

Windows Mail is the name for Vista's version of Outlook Express, which
is not the same as Outlook.

Hi,

So when you actioned the telnet command did you connect to comcast servers
or not? If not then this is indicative of software error not comcast
servers. Have you tried deactivating your antivirus / firewall software and
repeating. I know you said you don't have other software running but what
about Windows inbuilt firewall is this running, if so turn it off and try
again. I know it's frustrating but hopefully eventually we'll get to the
root of the problem.

What about a system restore back to before your sister-in-law used the PC?

One more thing. Try deleting your mail account and set up a brand new one,
using your details of course. Sometimes mail accounts get corrupted and so
setting up new ones is just another process of elimination.
