I have been trying to set up Windows Mail. I get an error message:The
connection to the server has failed. Subject 'Test', Account:
'POP3.live.com', Server: 'SMPT.live.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E. I have
disable my email virus scanning. I have checked with Qwest about the correct
ports, 25 for outgoing and 995 for incoming. SSL is checked. My server
requires authentication is checked. Incoming mail is POP3.live.com. Outgoing
is smpt.live.com. I have Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2 with a 64
bit operating system. I have had many hours of frustration over this. Any
suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

1.) SMTP port is NOT 25. It is 587
2.) Tools > Accounts > your hotmail account > Properties > Servers.....
under Incoming Mail Server heading, put a checkmark on " Logon using clear
text authentication ".
Let us know if it is ok after the change(s).

t-4-2

If that's a verbatim copy of the error message, change smPT.live.com to
smTP.live.com (letters capitalized for emphasis).
Also, as t-4-2 already advised you, the port number should be 587 instead
of 25.

I keep getting this error:

Account: 'Personal Mail', Server: 'pop3.live.com', Protocol: POP3, Server
Response: '-ERR authentication failed', Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Server
Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92

And before 28 Oct, this has never happened before. The damn logon window
keeps appearing no matter how many times I key in my user name and password.
What has gone wrong with Windows Mail??

I changed the SMPT port to 587 but I do not have "Logon using clear text
authentication" choice. The only choices are "Remember Password", and "Log on
using secure password authentication" for both incoming and outgoing email.
This time I got the following errors:The connection to the server has failed.
Subject 'Test', Account: 'POP3.live.com', Server: 'smpt.live.com', Protocol:
SMTP, Port: 587, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number:
0x800CCC0E and Account: 'POP3.live.com', Server: 'POP3.live.com', Protocol:
POP3, Server Response: '-ERR command not implemented', Port: 995,
Secure(SSL): Yes, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC18

There is a misunderstanding on what I wrote............
1. ) Please do NOT enable " Log on using secure password authentication". I
never meant that one.
Just check " Remember Password ".
2. ) Server name is smtp.live.com NOT smpt.live.com ...... "t"
before the "p".
3. ) SMTP port # is 587
