I am in Windows XP, using Microsoft Fax via the Microsoft CD . I have a
single modem, my fax is enabled to send and enabled to receive, and it is not
shared with another computer. The fax has been configured for years --with no
problem--Configuration Summary:
Devices configured to send faxes:
Intel(R) 536EP V.92 Modem
The TSID of these devices is xxxxxxxxx
Devices configured to receive faxes:
Intel(R) 536EP V.92 Modem
Devices are configured to automatically answer incoming fax calls
after 1 rings.
The CSID of these devices is Faxxxxxxxx
.
This may be a clue: Suddenly, when I tried to send a fax, my Norton 2006
product announced a Trojan attack . Assuming it was connected, I uninstalled
my Norton 2006 product, and tried to download it again. It would not
download.
Then I noticed that I have another (!) Norton product (2005) downloaded
on my computer. Wary of remaining unprotected, I installed it--this 2005
Norton does NOT announce a Trojan--but the fax still doesn't work. (No
Trojan attacks, by the ay, Ive run scans, etc.) I get no error notices at
all. Now my faxes simply do not respond--they go directly to my Fax console
outbox where they appear immediately with the small X. When I restart the
faxes, after a sec, they reappear with that X. Thanks-wingsofsong
