cannot send emails with large attachments

I cannot send emails with attachments greater than about 1Mb
I have 3 email accounts, each returns the same error msg so I figure it is
an outlook problem ( The operation timed out waiting for a response from the
sending SMTP server)
I have just upgraded to Win XP Pro SP2 and updated Office XP Outlook 2003 SP1
