I too am unable to send email. I have talked to both earthlink and toshiba
and we can't determine the cause other than it looks like a firewall issue.
The protocols are correct and all known firewalls, etc are disabled. The
error number is: 0x800cccOF. Thank you/

Insufficient data.
Right-click on the error message, copy, then paste it into a

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no
protection not provided by the regular resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and
Outlook Express and should be uninstalled.

Gary, here is the complete error message:

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Subject 'test', Account: '(e-mail address removed) Mail Account',
Server: 'smtpauth.earthlink.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 587, Secure(SSL): No,
Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

Also, I have uninstalled the McAfee software that came with the computer.
Thanks.

Thanks Frank. I have uninstalled the McAfee software that came with the
computer, but still no results. Here is the error message:

As an aside, my desktop runs XP and has MicroTrend PCillan as it's
anti-viral software, which I really like....is it possible it is creating a
conflict Outlook Express. I can't get it to set to default. Thanks again for
your help.

Which antivirus are you running now? Make sure it doesn't scan
emails.

It is possible that McAfee corrupted your mail account. Delete it,
restart Windows Mail, then recreate the account.

Remove the account, close and reopen OE and set up the account again.

I'm a bit surprise there wasn't a socket error listed.

Is the box "My server requires authentication" on the servers tab of the
account properties checked?

EarthLink may not allow you to use a non-EarthLink address when sending
through their server.

Frank, I have removed McAfee completely from the computer, am not sure what
to do with Wndows Mail as far as reconfiguring it and starting from scratch.
Could
you please give me the bonehead version (step by step..) of what to do next?
Thanks!

I don't use EarthLink, so I don't have any personal knowledge of the correct
answer. From this article it appears that you can only send through the
EarthLink servers using your EarthLink address.

Frank, I am back in business...I found a setting that was incorrect in my ISP
protocols....thanks for all your input!

Dave

Can you share with us what setting change that was?
It will assist us in resolving future cases with the same problem.
