Cannot select Word as editor

I am trying to select Word as my email editor: I click on
Tools\Options\Mail Format, but the two checkboxes under
Message format (that allow selection of Word) are grayed-
out. Is there a switch somewhere else that I'm
missing... how do I turn Word on as editor if the check
boxes are grayed out?
 
Are your Word version and Outlook version the same? Like both are from
Office 2003. You can only select Word as e-maileditor when they are from the
same version.
