Hi

Can anyone assist with this:

I recently moved my hosting from Portland (wouldn't recommend it to anyone)
to DIY Hosts, and belatedly (by Portland) the DNSs have been changed OK

However, I cannot see the site - www.ageconcernbexley.org.uk, except thro'
the original preview URL. I guessed this was because my cache needed
clearing. I did that. No go. I did so again and wiped out ALL references
to Portland, cookies temp internet files and overwrote all free/slack space
with utility which usually does a damn job of this.

Still no go - all I get is the Portland 404 error page.

Is there anything else I can do? Everyone I have asked can see the site OK
thro' its URL.

What happens when you issue a ping to this site, e.g. at the command prompt:

ping www.ageconcernbexley.org.uk

you should get back a reply with IP address 207.218.250.8? If yes, then
DNS is working.

The nomenclature you use to describe the probelm and what you did is a
little unconventional, so I can't really figure out what you mean.
"Hosting" normally refers to hosting web pages ... nothing to do with
dns. I don't know what you mean by original preview URL ... cookies and
temp internet files don't have much to do with dns. not sure what
free/slack space has to do with this.

Hi Rob

Thanks for your prompt reply.

Yes, Ping works OK - that seems to make the problem even more intractable!

Sorry about the sloppy nomencalture. What I meant was that
ageconcernbexley.org.uk used to be hosted on Portland servers and I
transferred the hosting from Portland to DIY Hosts - so a whois now shows
the latter's DNSs.

The original preview URL is that provided by DIY Hosts until the new name
servers are resolved (ie it is the IP address); I cleared cookies and
temporary internet files to get rid of everything connected to Portlad in
desperation!

Free space and slack space are terms used by Clean Disk Security -
http://www.theabsolute.net/sware/clndisk.html (an excellent app BTW) to
define what areas of a disc to wipe.

As a whois search shows the correct DNS and Ping works OK any ideas what the
problem might be?

Thanks again
