when I click on the properties button nothing happens. I
have reloaded the device drivers, etc. I have also forced a
re-registration of netshell.dll and ole32.dll, but again,
these had no affect on the problem. I want to change from
automatic DNS to specifiying four DNS addresses. If I
cannot solve the problem directly, can I edit the registry
to do what I want to do? If so where, how?

Thanks,

What kind of connection is this? There is no properties sheet for AOL or
MSN connections.

This is a standard ethernet connection (LAN or High-Speed
Internet).

I forgot to mention, I am running XP Pro SP1 with most hot
fixes.

.

Have you tried reinstalling the LAN card?

Ken,

I am having a very simlar problem on my machine. It is a
standard onboard Intel PRO/100 VE NIC and I have
uninstalled and reinstalled the network card drivers to
no effect. I've even downloaded new drivers from Intel's
site to make sure the install items I have were not
corrupted. The one distinction which annotherron has not
identified is the fact that I receive an error message
(prompt to submit data to MS) that identifies an explorer
crash in module netshell.dll. I too have re-registered
netshell.dll and ole32.dll (I guess there's only 1 KB
article that is remotely similar to this issue.)

Any help would be appreciated.

Rob

I too am having a very simlar problem on my machine. I have a dial-up
connection. I select a connection from my previous ISP, and right
clicking and selecting properties works. But when I try on my new
connection. Nothing happens when I select properties. Deleting or
copying connection will not solve the problem. XP pro SP1, HSP
micromodem.
