does anyone know how this would happen? Just one day, I
can no longer search through Internet Explorer? Each
search just times out?

Your search assistant or _more have been hijacked.

Follow the instructions for Ad-aware and SpyBot Search & Destroy at this

If no joy, follow the instructions for "Hijack This" at above link.

Read the latest virus info: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/trojan.qhosts.html

.
hi laura
i had the same problem . i did a search on the file [hosts]
i found 2 . one in windows and one in windows help . i
opened both files with notepad and they contained all the
search engine names . i just changed the names of the two
files and put them in their own folder named new folder .
then i rebooted the computor and problem was solved .
remember there probably is more than one file named
[hosts] . i think you can delete both files but i'm not
sure so i just left them under a different name . if you
have these files you have the trojan . good luck
jamie

Jamie,
You have to do a lot more than just edit the HOSTS file.
See the "manual removal instructions"
