After finishing my movie, i use the wizard to save it to
my computer, but it tells me to make sure my source files
are in the original location...in which they are, because
i only import them to collections, not move them. All the
settings on the movie maker are at the default settings.
I've saved movies before, and this hasn't happened.

I had this happen to me too, few weeks ago, for no apparent reason. Would
love to see an explanation.

First its always good to make sure your hard drive has
been de-fragmented recently and there is enough hard drive
space. That has been said plenty on this board.

Now this may not even be close to a solution to this
problem, but I'd like to see if someone ever tried it. I
had an issue with my internet (DSL) and Mcaffee software
for "my profile" only in XP. Just stopped working. My
wife's profile had no problems. I just created a new user
for myself, moved all files and everything is A-OK!
Deleted the bad profile of course.

John, Papa, Cari, Bob (or anyone else). . . any chance
that a corrupt file in the profile could cause this?
Especially since it was working and now its not. I'd like
to see if someone logged into XP as another user (or
created a new user), opened MM2 and then tried to save the
movie, if it would now work. May be a long shot but you
never know.

Steve,

Early on I set my computer up with two users, one for my personal use and
another for my 'Movie Studio' work..... both for me but with different
icons/settings. But I ran into not being able to use some of the files when
logged in as one or the other.

I wanted the benefits of multiple user accounts, but not the hassle of
having the files protected from myself.... so I adopted the policy of
always creating folders for source and project files that are outside of
user-specific areas.

User rights issues can get in the way at times.... not necessarily with a
corrupt file, just with normal activities and settings.

Hello there,

When compiling a project into your final video, there is no advantage
whatsoever in defragmenting your hard drive. On top of this and because the
compile process creates temporary files whilst compiling the video. The
video file is in any case fragmented at the end of the compile process.

The solution, I believe is the save the files in the folder called
"Shared Documents" There is no need for anything fabce, thats what it is
there for. I think you will find the info in the Help File, its always a
good place to look.

Thanks to everyone who responded to my query! I read all
of your kind suggestions...but sad (;;) to say none
worked. So, I went to the download site on Microsoft and
downloaded, then reinstalled MM2. Alas I was able to save
my movies. Special thanks to PAPAJOHN...I found your site
very informative, and want to visit again and educate
myself further on MM2! Take care.
