Cannot Save Movie

ok this is driving me nuts. i open MM, import a file,
drop it in the timeline, import another file, drop it in
the timeline. i click save movie, pick a local dir and
MM tells me it cant save my movie (due to either my
saving dir not existing or my source files not located).

anyone have any idea what in hell is going on?
 
ok figured out the problem. the original videos were AVI
and seems that the only format i can export to is AVI.
all other options fail.

can someone recomment a good software to convert videos
to diff formats?

I just saved a movie to WMV format, using clips from a Divx encoded AVI file
as source files. And I routinely make DV-AVI files in Premiere and then use
them in MM2.

But then I tried another from the Divx AVI file and MM2 crashed. So I'm not
sure the sorting is as simple as that.- if it can work sometimes and have
problems other times, I wouldn't want to rule out doing it when it works..
