Hello,
I am another(un)happy victim of the dreaded "Cannot save the movie" error.
My story is: "it used to work, but now it can only save in DV-AVI, no more
WMV". So I cannot save even the simplest, token, movies, with plenty of space
and memory to spare.
I've checked out PapaJohn's website at
http://www.papajohn.org/MM2-Issues-CantSaveMovie.html, re-registered the
DLLs, then tried reinstalling Windows Media Encoder and even MM2 (using the
moviemk.inf trick). Still no luck, the darned thing won't create my movies!
I am out of ideas. Any suggestions? Tried filemon, filtering on *moviemk*,
but nothing obvious popped up. Also, Adobe Premiere Elements has no problems
saving in WMV.
One idea, maybe: when I started buying music from MSN, the Media Player
refused to play the files. The support technician told me it could have been
related to the Windows Media Encoder and recommended reinstalling Windows
Media Player. I did and it solved the problem. I wonder if Windows Media
Player's DRM could be somehow interfering with MM2…
Anyway, once again, any help is appreciated. For now the very ugly
workaround I have is to get Movie Maker to save as DV-AVI and then get
Premiere to re-save as WMV. Yuck.
Thanks,
Dave.
