I upgraded from 98 to XP. My office (small medical) was
running a data base program from the host that contained
all patient data, billing, etc. I was able to run this
program from the workstation. After setting up network in
XP Pro. I cannot run the program from the workstation.
THe network is up and running. THe root directory on both
computers are shared using simple file sharing. I mapped
a network drive from the workstation to the exe file on
the host. WHen I try to open the program, it tries to
load and then quits stating a "path error". The software
developed said it is an accessiblity problem with the
network. However, under sharing, I have both the root
drives fully shared as well as the folder in the host
that contains the exe file. Please help.

By default, Windows XP doesn't allow sharing the Program Files,
Documents and Settings, or Windows folders. I don't know why
Microsoft designed it that way.

Since you have Windows XP Professional, you can disable simple file
sharing to remove those restrictions:

1. Open My Computer and click Tools | Folder Options | View.
2. Scroll to the end of the advanced settings.
3. Un-check "Use simple file sharing (recommended).

You might need to un-share and re-share the drive and reboot the
workstation for the change to become effective.
