Cannot run "net use lpt1" as a standard user

We have a Windows 2000 domain and Windows XP Pro
workstations. There is a old DOS based program that only
prints to LPT1.
When I try to run "net use LPT1: \\printserver\printer1" I
get prompted for a password. This only happens to standard
users. I can run this as an administrator without problem.

Is there a security setting that I can change so standard
users or power users can run the "net use lpt1" command
without error?

Please help.

Yes the security team locked that down. If the program can use LPT2: users
can map this if there is not a real LPT2: device installed on the system.

Alternately, if there is not a physical printer attached to the clients,
disable the LPT port in the computer BIOS. Then users can map LPT1:
