Cannot Restore to previous point

My new computer arrived with XP Home on it, and it worked
fine. I did some software installs and set my DSL dialer,
Outlook Expr. etc. Everything was fine.

I decided to upgrade tp XP Prof. But before I did, I set
a restore point to come back to the "XP Home" system if I
needed to.

Well, When XP Prof. wiped out my DSL service and the
provider could not help me, I chose to restore back to XP
Home. But when I clicked on the restore function
in "system tools," I was dismayed to see the following
error message "The procedure entry point
RemoteAssistancePrepareSystemRestore could not be located
in the dynamic link library WINSTA.dll" So here I sit . .
broken hearted . . .

Do you have any advice to correct this situation?

Thank You

Hi

I'm afraid that SR can't be used to revert to XP Home Edition when it has been upgraded to XP Pro - you will lose all existing SR points. However you may be able to get SR working again by right clicking on the sr.inf file - which can be found in the %systemroot%\inf folder - and selecting 'install'. If you want to revert to XP Home Edition, you will need to reformat your hard disk/partition and re-install XP Home Edition from scratch.

Please note that you will have to re-install all XP Updates/Hotfixes including SP1/a whether you keep Pro or revert to Home Edition.
